Why Brahmavihara-Arama Should Be on Your Bali Travel List
Brahmavihara-Arama is not just any temple; it’s the largest Buddhist temple in Bali and a true gem for those seeking peace and beauty. As soon as I stepped inside, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. The atmosphere was serene, and the view was breathtaking. The gate leading to the temple, adorned with numerous Buddha statues, was like something out of a dream. Walking up the stairs to the gate felt almost magical, like ascending to heaven.
The temple has a small entrance fee of just 25k for locals, with a different price for foreign tourists who hold a KITAS (this point, as far as I can remember). Visitors wearing shorts are provided with a kain at the entrance to ensure proper attire for entering the sacred space. This thoughtful gesture shows the temple’s respect for tradition and its willingness to make sure everyone can visit comfortably.
The guide at Brahmavihara-Arama was awe-inspiring. A Balinese local, he spoke not only English but also French, Japanese, and Korean. I heard him switching effortlessly between these languages while guiding different groups of tourists. What an amazing skill! The tourists, in turn, were very respectful. They kept their voices low and followed the rules, especially when entering the prayer areas. It was heartwarming to see such mutual respect.
One of my favorite spots in the temple was the meditation area. Sitting there, surrounded by lush greenery and the soft sound of chanting in the background, was an experience I’ll never forget. The energy of the place was so calming that it felt like time stood still.
Another highlight was the temple’s intricate architecture. The detailed carvings and statues were a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication of the people who built it. Every corner of the temple had a story to tell, and I found myself lost in its beauty.
Visiting Brahmavihara-Arama was a reminder of the importance of taking a moment to pause and appreciate the present. Despite the short duration of my visit, the temple left a lasting impression on me. It’s a place where you can reconnect with yourself and find peace amidst life’s chaos.
If you’re planning to visit, here are a few tips to make the most of your trip:

- Visit Early: To fully enjoy the tranquility, try to visit in the morning when it’s less crowded.
- Take Your Time: Don’t rush. Sit in the meditation area, soak in the views, and enjoy the peaceful vibe.
